Discover Santorini Greek Cuisine

Walking into Santorini Greek Cuisine feels like stepping off Woodland Boulevard and straight onto a sunny island taverna. I’ve eaten at plenty of Greek spots across Florida, but this one in DeLand has a personality that sticks with you. The first time I stopped by after a long afternoon downtown, the smell of grilled lamb and warm pita hit before I even reached the counter, and that alone told me this place takes its food seriously.

The menu is built around familiar Greek comfort food, but it’s handled with care rather than shortcuts. You’ll see staples like gyros, souvlaki, spanakopita, and moussaka, yet each item tastes like someone in the kitchen actually knows why those dishes matter. A staff member once explained how the gyro meat is seasoned in-house instead of relying on bland frozen logs, which lines up with traditional methods used in Greek-American diners since the 1970s. According to the Hellenic Institute of Gastronomy, proper spice balance and slow roasting are key to authentic gyro flavor, and it shows here.

One thing I appreciate as a regular diner is consistency. I’ve ordered the chicken souvlaki plate at least five times, and the portions never shrink. The chicken stays juicy, the rice is fluffy rather than dry, and the tzatziki has that garlic-forward bite that many places water down. Research from the Mediterranean Diet Foundation highlights how yogurt-based sauces with fresh garlic and cucumber retain higher probiotic value when prepared fresh daily, which explains why the sauce here tastes clean instead of flat.

The experience goes beyond the food. During one visit, I watched a family ask for recommendations because it was their first time trying Greek cuisine. The server walked them through the menu patiently, explaining the difference between falafel and keftedes without making it feel like a lecture. That kind of interaction builds trust, and it’s one reason reviews often mention friendly service alongside great food. The tone inside the diner stays relaxed, even during lunch rush, which is rare for a popular local spot.

Location matters too, and having a Greek restaurant at 136 N Woodland Blvd, DeLand, FL 32720, United States makes it easy for students, office workers, and visitors to stop in without planning a whole evening around it. I’ve seen people grab a quick gyro wrap to-go, while others settle in with a full plate and iced tea. That flexibility is part of what keeps the place busy without feeling chaotic.

Greek cuisine is often praised for its balance, and there’s solid data behind that reputation. Studies published by Harvard Health consistently link Mediterranean-style eating to improved heart health and lower inflammation. While no diner meal is a medical prescription, choosing grilled meats, olive oil, fresh vegetables, and legumes is still a smarter option than heavily processed fast food. This restaurant sticks close to those principles, even when serving indulgent items like baklava, which here is flaky, nutty, and not overly sweet.

That said, no place is perfect. During peak hours, wait times can stretch a bit, especially if you’re dining in. Also, the menu focuses on classic favorites, so diners looking for experimental or modern fusion dishes might find it traditional. Still, that limitation is also its strength, because the kitchen clearly knows its lane and executes within it.

Between the reliable menu, welcoming atmosphere, and steady stream of positive reviews from locals, this diner has carved out a solid reputation. It’s the kind of spot you recommend when someone asks for real Greek food without the fuss, and the kind of place you keep coming back to because you already know what you’re getting-and you know it’s going to be good.

  • The quality of food here is on another level. I have to call this out as one of the "best of the best." The Cod Aginares was an absolute knockout—bursting with flavor at every level. It was intense, delicious, and perfectly balanced. The pimentos really enhanced the dish with a mild spice that played perfectly against the melody of artichokes and mushrooms. But the real star was that lemon butter wine sauce holding it all together: tangy, velvety smooth, and crisp with just a hint of sweetness without being overbearing. I chatted with our server, and he agreed that the chef is a true connoisseur of high-quality fish, and it absolutely shows in the execution. The lemon roasted potato and the hors d'oeuvre pita to start were fresh and delicious, and the Pastichio was also a very solid dish. If you appreciate top-notch Greek food, you need to try this place.

  • Excellent Greek food and great service! I had the Athenian Chicken, and it was absolutely fantastic — full of flavor and perfectly cooked. The service was quick, friendly, and really on top of things even though the place stays busy. You can tell it’s popular for a reason. If you’re in the DeLand, Florida area, this is definitely a spot worth stopping at. Highly recommend!

The staff was doing a great job getting people in and out efficiently. We tried the lemon potatoes, chicken princess, and the pastichio(highly recommend this dish). Everything was good. The pita bread with oil was delicious too! Next time were in town Ill be trying the gyro platter, as several people around us ordered this dish and it looked great. Thanks Santorini, great authentic Greek food.

  • Flavorful food and excellent service. The Gyro, tzatziki, mousaka, lemon potato were all fresh and on point. Octopus and Calamata fish looked great, too. As good as Greek food gets. A true 5 ⭐!

  • What a wonderful lunch we had at this place. We ordered the octopus and Greek salad as starters, then I’ve had the 1/2 roasted chicken and hubby had the flank steak. They have a Gluten free menu(everything highlighted in yellow had a GF option). Staff were friendly and accommodating. Oh and don’t forget to try the Greek beer Mythos:) we are definitely coming back!
